Unlock the potential in you

Guest post by Yinka Aloko……..

Experiencing a pandemic had me evaluating my life as a young black woman. During the first few weeks of the lock-down, I must admit that I worried about my safety and that of my friends and family. Trust me; this year has been nothing but a movie. The black lives matter movement was a wake-up call for me. I found myself researching why more black men were incarcerated in the States, how I can empower my community and positively impact those around me as a BLACK QUEEN.

Growing up, I heard of the Proverbs 31 Woman. This woman has a whole chapter dedicated to her; talk about #goals lol!. She is the spouse of a nobleman, yet she created an identity for herself. She is also known as an industrious woman, investing money in buying fields and turning them into vineyards. Her dealings are profitable, and she participates in several philanthropic pursuits. She is a leader in her home as she coordinates the activities of her children and servants while staying involved in their affairs. Her husband and children sing her praises, describing her as a virtuous woman.

Reading about the woman again challenged me more than ever. I need to do more i told myself. Hence, i decided to visit the drawing board and see how my plans could be executed while continually educating myself on financial literacy and growth. Improving my relationship with God was the starting point. I am far from perfect, and that’s why the grace of God is sufficient.

So let’s reflect, who is your role model? Do they encourage you to improve your talents and become a better version of yourself? Have you been able to unlock the potential in you? Proverbs 31 verse 30 warns that charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Our beauty may fade someday, so let’s invest in ourselves and our community, pursue our dreams and use our God-given talents.
