Learning from mistakes

Wow, guys!!!!!!!! Christmas is almost here, or should I say Christmas is less than two weeks away. This year went by so fast. What do you think?

I must confess this year was amazingly different for me. I went through different phases, and in every stage, I met different people who came with different great opportunities and varied experience that has helped me grow. Honestly, I learned a lot from this year, how about you? How has your year been so far?

2018 has taught me to learn from my mistakes; a crucial step in learning, growing and improving yourself. Time and experience can be excellent teachers when you learn a lesson from your poor decisions. Some mistakes are and can cost you a lot; some might not. However, it is vital that we understand that our mistakes can present us a perfect opportunity to learn, to be better, and to improve ourselves.

One way to learn from mistakes is by acknowledging that you are in error. A lot of people find it hard to accept the fact that they are in error. You can only learn from a mistake after you admit you’ve made it. As soon as you start blaming other people or perhaps the universe itself, you distance yourself from any possible lesson.

Everyone makes mistakes in life, this is normal, but how you learn from them determines your chances for growth and the only way to prevent making mistakes the second time is to work against making the same mistakes again. This is because mistakes are opportunities to re-evaluate the path you are taking towards your goals.

Going through the stage of recognizing your mistakes, you should also work towards figuring out the cause of your mistakes. What could it be? Could it be you, the decision you made or the process of executing the decision? In most cases, the mistake starts with you. Your mindset, your thought process, ignoring every red flag and choosing to fall into the pit just like that. Sometimes we make mistakes because we are stubborn and not willing to learn or take corrections. Avoid it!!

The most critical step; prevent it from occurring again. Instead, aim at a better result, correct the errors that became mistakes. Do not put yourselves in the same shoe for a mistake to happen. You are better than that. If you need help, reach out for it. If you need guidance, find someone who is wise and trustworthy, who is willing to listen to your explanations of what you’ve tried so far. If you need direction, don’t be afraid to ask. However, be smart with who you take advise from because they could be the cause of your mistakes.

Like I said earlier, we are all humans; hence we would make mistakes but it becomes a problem when we can’t learn from it. Mistakes should teach us, through analysis and feedback, about what works, and what doesn’t. It should teach us to take responsibility, and most importantly it should teach us about integrity. Well, I hope you were able to get something valuable from today’s article. Have a blessed weekend.

  1. Very well put.

Someone once said that a mistake isn’t a mistake unless you learn from it. Mistakes therefore are opportunities for us to learn.

Mistakes also are clear indications that we are not just idle but are busy trying different things . 🙂
