Hello, my fantastic reader! I hope you are doing well? How has your week been so far? Mine has been good. Everything seems to be falling into place, and I am so grateful to God.

I would like to use this medium to wish a fabulous friend turn older sister, Oyin Oyetunde a happy belated birthday.  A rare gem, an epitome of kindness, a lover of all and my number one Woman of God.  I wish you long life and prosperity in all your endeavours. Stay blessed.

So, today I would like to address the importance of self-love. Over time, I have grown to understand that it is impossible to love others if we do not learn to love ourselves first. Come to think of it; we are often taught how to love others, bend over backwards for people who wouldn’t do the same for us, and go beyond the capability of delivering love and effort for other people but not for ourselves. Sincere truth!

Even more, We are often made to believe that it’s okay to accept the kind of love we think we deserve and never beyond that. That it’s okay to leave ourselves out from the love we so freely give away. The love that we will give only to have nothing left for ourselves. How sad.

It is popularly said, “you can’t love others before you learn to love yourself first.” Self-love plays a massive role in our relationships with others and with our personal growth. If you can love yourself and turn your flaws into assets, you will be happy and would be able to build up confidence in yourself and what you do.  Self-love creates a positive body image and allows you have a healthy mindset, this is essential as it makes you comfortable with yourself. According to Charles Bukowski “If you have the ability to love, love yourself first.”  Though it is beautiful to love and give yourself to another, it is important to love and give to yourself.

I think it’s important to recognize and thoroughly understand how self-love affects the love we give to and receive from other people. I mean who knows you better than you know yourself? Learn how to make yourself happy, love yourself. Kindly share your thought and opinion on the importance of self-love.

  1. Completely agree. There are too many people looking for love they don’t have for themselves in other people, which leads people to build and stay in unhealthy relationships. If you know your worth and who you are you are truly unstoppable.

  2. I truly agree with you and love the quote of Bukowski..about self-love.i feel its so important because a lot of people go into marriages and ruin everything because the don’t even love themselves..”you never can give what you don’t have”.
